Veteran Marathi actress Jyoti Chandekar, mother of actress Tejaswini Pandit, has passed away at the age of 69. Her death has brought great sadness to the Marathi film and TV industry.

Jyoti Chandekar’s Health Journey

According to reports, Jyoti Chandekar had been facing health problems for some time. She was admitted to a hospital in Pune for treatment. In 2024, while shooting for the serial Tharala Tar Mag, she suddenly fell ill on set due to a drop in her sodium levels.

Because of this, she had to take a two-month break from work. In an interview, Jyoti said that the experience felt like “coming back from the edge of death.” She also thanked the production team for waiting for her recovery, which she said is very rare in the entertainment industry.

Her daughter, Tejaswini Pandit, also shared earlier that Jyoti had undergone gallbladder surgery and spent several days in the ICU before she recovered and returned to acting.

With great sadness, we share that our loving mother, senior actress Mrs. Jyoti Chandekar Pandit, passed away on August 16 at the age of 69 after a short illness. Her last rites will take place on August 17 at 11 a.m. at Vaikunth Crematorium in Pune.

A Career of 50 Years

Jyoti Chandekar started acting when she was just 12 years old. She went on to have a long and successful career of more than 50 years. She worked in many well-known Marathi movies like Guru, Deva Ek Atrangi, Ticha Umbartha Dharmakanya, Dholki, Paoolwaat, and Sojourner.

She also became popular on television with her acting in shows like Tujha Majha Breakup and Tu Sukhakarta. Jyoti was known for giving strong and serious performances, which made her respected by both the audience and her co-actors.

The last rites of Jyoti Chandekar will be held at Vaikunth Crematorium, Navi Peth, Pune, on August 17, 2025.
